TOPOMAP is a comprehensive mapping system designed to aid the engineer insurveying, site development, map preparation, and final design grading.It utilizes conventional field and office surveying concepts to developthe final topographic map. The main concept of the software is not torevolutionize the process through radical change of present fieldoperations but to conform with the general note-taking practices ofsurveyors. Input is by English-type commands common to surveyingpractice. Input from data records is acceptable.TOPOMAP can accept conventional cross-section or radial survey data. Itcan adjust traverses by either the compass rule or lease squares method,and computes HIs, coordinates, and elevations of the various pointssighted. Data from digital stereo-plotters is acceptable. Once thefield of information is received in the office, scales and plottingoptions can be specified as desired.Contours are developed smoothed to a degree indicated. The surveyorretains the ability to interactively make corrections, or influence thecontours to display ground relief as per field observations. Theintegrity of abrupt anomalies is maintained.
